Dear users. Some time ago, accuweather.com stopped providing data in XML format for the gadget. All of your gadgets are showing an Internet connection error. I'm working on it. Unfortunately, with constant air raids and missile strikes on my city (I live in Ukraine), the work is proceeding extremely slowly and I have no confidence that it will ever be completed. Thanks for understanding.

Can anybody help me to translate few my gadgets to other languages (Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, etc.)? If you’re that person, please call me using the contact form.

Network Monitor II overview

Version 31.5 released at 12/20/2023

When you’re using your PC, you may come across the situation where your Internet connection suddenly stops working. To troubleshoot the issue, you have to open multiple command line windows, inspect Windows settings, and launch web browsers to determine what’s functioning and what’s not. It doesn’t sound very appealing, does it? The solution is straightforward. A small Windows 11 and Windows 10 Sidebar gadget, known as Network Monitor II, can save you time and simplify the process by providing real-time network status updates.

Network Monitor II is a free tool designed to serve as an indicator of your Internet connection. It allows you to monitor various aspects of your connection, including outgoing and incoming speed, upload and download traffic, information about the level and source of your Wi-Fi connection, internal and external IP addresses (complete with country flags), GateWay and DNS details, all conveniently displayed on your desktop.

For enhanced security, all servers used to determine the country flag employ SSL protocol to ensure a secure connection. Network Monitor II provides this information without requiring you to install any additional monitoring tools. The gadget also offers graphical representations of your bandwidth usage

Moreover, the traffic counter feature lets you automatically save data when the gadget is shut down. Notably, when you hover your mouse cursor over the flag displayed on the right side of the gadget, it provides detailed information about the provider of your current external IP address. Please be aware that the gadget must be in focus before you can access this information.

Network Monitor II is an essential tool for users seeking to identify their current IP address. This gadget displays both your external and internal IP addresses, allowing you to determine how to access your router’s web interface or configure servers running on your PC. Notably, the program automatically updates IP addresses when you restart the server or establish an Internet connection. Moreover, the application can log all IP address changes for your reference.

An interesting feature of the gadget is the ability to execute the specified program in the event of disconnection and/or restoration of the Internet connection. Moreover, gadget can inform you of special sounds about many events related to your network and Internet connection and even change your current IP. You can always set a gadget to stop checking your External IP for privacy reasons.

Furthermore, Network Monitor II can automatically detect whether you are using a wired or wireless network and switch between them as needed. Please refer to the advice below to set up this feature.

The Info link extends the information provided by the gadget. It opens a flyout window with data related with the network interface such as the both (IPv4 and IPv6) addresses, MAC address, subnet mask, the Internet gateway, the DHCP and the DNS servers that are used by the computer and so on.

The interface is designed for customization, allowing you to choose the displayed information and its size. While two default styles are provided, you have the flexibility to personalize the color of each element to your liking. If you find the changes uncomfortable, you can easily revert to the default settings with a single click. Network Monitor II is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

  11. Double-clicking on the background will open Network And Sharing Center.
  12. Hover over the title to view the next counter reset date and time if it’s set.
  13. Hover mouse to corresponding IP to show current network interface.
  14. The gray name  adapter  means that this NIC is disconnected right now. But you can select it for working in the future when it is connected.

Advice 1: To switch between connection types, you must follow the following steps:

  1. Navigate to tab #2 in the settings.
  2. Select “Connection type” and choose both network interfaces for IP and monitoring.
  3. Click the “Set net settings for switching” button.
  4. Return “Connection type” and the selected network interfaces for IP and monitoring to their original settings.
  5. Click the “Set net settings for switching” button again.
  6. Press the “OK” button.

After completing these steps, you can switch between connections by clicking on the connection identification icon (Wired or/and Wireless). When you click for the first time, the network parameters will change to the values saved after clicking the “Set net settings for switching” button. To revert to the current network parameters, simply click on the connection identification icon (Wired or/and Wireless) to restore net parameters to their current position.

Advice 2: Before rechecking the “Auto pick the network type”, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to tab #2 in the settings.
  2. Select “Connection type” and both network interfaces for IP and monitoring for the first network.
  3. Press the “Set net settings for switching” button.
  4. Return “Connection type” and the selected network interfaces for IP and monitoring for the second network.
  5. Click the “Set net settings for switching” button again.
  6. Check “Auto pick the network type” box.
  7. Press the “OK” button.

In this scenario, when you switch to a wireless network, the device automatically transitions to wireless mode. If the wireless connection is lost, the gadget will promptly revert to a wired mode.

Advice 3: What is the “Forcibly scan Internet (for router) ” option?

When using a network card, any change in connection status is treated as a special event, easily recorded by the gadget. However, if you’re utilizing an external device like a router, these events might be overlooked or go undetected. To address this, there’s an option called “Forcibly scan Internet (for router)” which allows the gadget to actively verify the Internet connection.

With this option checked, the gadget will periodically check the Internet connection based on the value specified in the “Scan every” field. The interval between scans is measured in minutes. Be cautious not to set this interval too small, as it can result in increased network traffic.

Advice 4: Lock selection

Sometimes, gadget interface settings can be reset after a computer reboot, particularly when you close and reopen the gadget. This issue may also arise if you are using multiple instances of the gadget. To address this problem, we have introduced the “Lock Selection” checkbox. Configure your desired interfaces and check this box. Your selected settings will be saved in a file and applied the next time the gadget is launched. Important! If you intend to use multiple instances of the gadget to monitor various interfaces, ensure that you have chosen different instance numbers on the #2 settings tab. Please note that the first gadget should have #1, the second should have #2, and so on. Use the “Instance of the gadget #” field on the #1 settings tab for this purpose.

Advice 5: Why is a delay needed before applying interfaces?

Sometimes, Windows doesn’t immediately display the required interfaces, which can result in incorrect configuration of previously saved interfaces when accessing WMI. This appears to be related to the fact that certain adapters require time for initialization. The delay before applying interfaces is intended to address this issue. Set your desired delay from 1 to 99 seconds. You should experiment to determine the shortest delay suitable for your system. If you don’t encounter the mentioned issue, you can enter 0 in this field.
